Battlefield of Trevilian Station June 11-12, 1864
The Battle of Trevilian Station was the largest all-cavalry battle of the Civil War. In June 1864, Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant ordered Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan to make a raid along the Virginia Central Railroad, destroy the road at the crucial junction town of Gordonsville, and then march to Charlottesville, destroy the supply depot there, and rendezvous with the army of Maj. Gen. David Hunter. The combined force would then march east, where it would join the Army of the Potomac at Petersburg. The battle, ranging over 7,000 acres, raged for two days at a cost almost 1,700 lives.

Horton Vineyards
Wine lover and entrepreneur Dennis Horton began his winemaking venture with a small home vineyard in Madison County, Virginia in 1983. It did not take him long to realize that, although the Virginia summers were warm enough to ripen almost any grape variety, the humid conditions favored growing grapes with thicker skins and loose clusters. The search was on for varieties that would flourish in the Virginia growing region and had the capacity to make some of the finest wines in the world.

Keswick Vineyards
Keswick Vineyards is located at the historic 400-acre Edgewood Estate in Keswick, Virginia. Tastings are held daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on site at the vineyard (excluding major holidays). During colonial times, the Keswick area was home to a number of prominent citizens and served as a vital corridor between Charlottesville and Orange. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison frequently passed through this part of Virginia, along with other well-known Albemarle county citizens including James Monroe, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
